Funeral services set for Oklahoma trooper killed in line of duty

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol announced funeral services for a trooper who was killed in a crash earlier this week on Interstate 35 in OKC. | RELATED VIDEO ABOVE | Oklahoma Highway Patrol asks public for help after crash kills trooper, mother, and childTrooper Vernon Brake died following a multi-vehicle crash on I-35 between Britton Road and Hefner Road. Two other people, Mercedes Bayne and her 5-year-old daughter Ariana, were also killed. On Friday, OHP officials announced that Brake's funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City. The church is located at 14600 Portland Avenue. A public visitation will be held at Baggerly Funeral Home, located at 930 S. Broadway in Edmond, from noon to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 13. A funeral procession as well as honors that include a 21-gun salute will be held in honor of Brake. OHP officials said there will not be a live feed of the funeral. Kevin Stitt ordered that American and Oklahoma flags be flown at half-staff until 5 p.m. on April 14. "Trooper Vernon Brake embodied the very best of Oklahoma. He lived his life with courage, integrity, and a steadfast dedication to serving others," Stitt said in a news release. "In lowering the flags at our Capitol, we honor the lasting impact of his service and recognize how much he meant to his family, friends, fellow troopers, and many loved ones. Sarah and I are praying for his wife and children as they navigate this heartbreaking loss."
