Former University of Providence Student Dies in Helicopter Crash
The University of Providence Athletic Department is saddened by the passing of a former Argo women's basketball player, Katelyn Heideman, who tragically lost her life in a helicopter crash in Arizona. Heideman, who played for the Argos for three years, was one of four victims in the crash that occurred on January 2, 2026. The university shared a message on social media, reflecting on Heideman's impact on the Argo family, noting her smile, kindness, and positive spirit that touched everyone. The crash, which also claimed the lives of Heideman's two cousins and their uncle, is under investigation by the NTSB, FAA, and US Forest Service. Coach Bill Himmelberg spoke about the profound loss, highlighting Heideman's role as a supportive teammate and her joyful spirit. He emphasized that Heideman's legacy will forever be cherished and remembered within the program and the university, with plans to honor her memory through a jersey patch and a remembrance ceremony on senior night.
