Former Greensboro officer charged after fatal crash at intersection of East Cone Boulevard, North O. Henry Boulevard, High Point police say

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) -- A former Greensboro officer has been charged in connection to a fatal crash last month that involved a patrol car, according to a High Point Police Department news release. Haley L. Maeurer, 25, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and speeding 76 mph in a 35 mph zone. She was responding to help another officer at the time of the crash. On May 3, around 2:30 a.m., Maeurer was driving east on East Cone Boulevard and passing through the North O. Henry Boulevard intersection when she crashed into another vehicle that was turning left onto North O. Henry Boulevard, the release says. The patrol car hit the front passenger door of the other vehicle. The passenger in the vehicle that was hit, Xavier T. Crosson, 35, of Climax, died from his injuries on May 16, police say. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital and released. Investigators determined Maeurer was speeding at the time of the crash, and she did not have her emergency lights or siren activated. The investigation is ongoing.
