Firefighter's death confirmed as an accident

Nashville Fire is mourning the loss of a firefighter's accidental death. In a statement, Nashville Fire Department reported that Metro Police concluded an investigation into the death of Firefighter Wayne Barry, who died on March 17, 2026 while on duty. Wayne Barry's cause of death was determined to be accidental by cocaine toxicity. Representatives from Nashville Fire write in the statement that the findings of the investigation of Barry's death violates the Fire Department's policies, and that Nashville Fire Department's personnel "are held to the highest standards of conduct both professionally and personally. It is cornerstone of our public trust."
