Firefighter caused fatal car crash after driving in wrong direction on NJ highway

In New Jersey, a tragic car crash occurred near Totowa early Monday morning when a firefighter driving the wrong way down the I-80 was involved in a head-on collision, resulting in his death and that of another individual. The firefighter, Albin Fermin, had been a member of the Newark fire department since February 2024 and was assigned to Engine 10 at the time of the accident. The crash, which occurred around 2 a.m. near exit 54, involved Fermin's Honda sedan colliding with a Buick SUV driven by a 60-year-old with a 24-year-old and a 2-year-old passenger. Tragically, both Fermin and the 24-year-old passenger, Imani Furman, lost their lives in the crash. The 60-year-old driver sustained serious injuries, while the 2-year-old child suffered moderate injuries. The incident is currently being investigated by New Jersey State Police.
