Felony charges filed against man accused of fleeing scene of fatal crash along I-80/94
LANSING, Ill. — Felony charges have been filed against a Palatine man accused of fleeing the scene of a deadly crash along I-80/94 in the south suburbs last month. Illinois State Police (ISP) troopers say 29-year-old Kuljeet Singh Kang, a Palatine resident, has been charged with one count of leaving the scene of a fatal injury crash and one count of reckless homicide. According to troopers, the alleged hit-and-run crash happened along the westbound lanes of I-80/94, near Torrence Avenue, in Lansing, at around 5:30 a.m. on June 24. Troopers said the victim, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as 23-year-old Sebastian Stone, was changing a tire along the roadway when he was allegedly struck and killed by Kang, who was operating a semi-trailer at the time. Following the crash, troopers said Kang allegedly fled the scene. Multiple police sources told WGN-TV the semi allegedly involved in the crash was later found abandoned at a truck stop in Hebron, Indiana, near I-65 and State Road 2. It was towed from that location and impounded as part of the investigation. Kang was eventually located on June 26 and taken into custody. Kang is currently being held at the Cook County Jail pending his first court appearance.
