Federal authorities assist in probe of fatal Standish school bus accident

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has joined the probe into the tragic school bus crash in Standish this week. Seven NTSB investigators have teamed up with local authorities to conduct a safety investigation following the incident. Specialists in human performance, motor carrier operations, and highway factors are part of the federal team. The NTSB aims to release a preliminary report within 30 days. In a show of solidarity, Maine State Senator James Libby expressed confidence in the community's strength during this tough time. NTSB focuses on identifying potential safety issues in road and highway crashes with nationwide implications to prevent similar incidents. While the NTSB is aware of the fatal school bus crash in Rockland last November, it is yet to confirm if it will be included in their investigation. The driver involved in the Standish crash has not faced any charges according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. School Superintendent Clay Gleason refrained from sharing additional details due to the ongoing investigations by multiple authorities, including the internal inquiry by the school district.
