Fatal tractor-trailer crash on Route I-88 - WIVT: One fatality recorded

A tragic incident took place in the Town of Fenton resulting in a fatal motor vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer. On January 2, members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol swiftly responded to a crash on Interstate Route 88 near Exit 3. They discovered a single tractor-trailer overturned in a drainage ditch. The deputies promptly rescued the operator, Vicky Chadwick, from the cab and administered CPR until further help arrived. Despite their efforts, Chadwick, a 54-year-old from Monessen, PA, was pronounced dead at the scene. An initial examination indicated that the tractor-trailer had veered from the right lane to the left, crossed the median, and flipped onto its side off the road. A witness dialed 911, prompting the response of various emergency units to handle the situation and address the spilled diesel fuel and antifreeze. The incident led to traffic restrictions until early morning on Saturday. The coordination efforts involved the Port Crane Fire Department, Broome Volunteer Emergency Squad, New York State Department of Transportation, Chenango Bridge Fire, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Spill Response.
