Fatal multi-car collision with plow and hockey team van on I-70

Tragic events unfolded on Thursday morning on Interstate 70 in Colorado, where a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles including a Colorado Department of Transportation plow, a sprinter van carrying a California hockey team, and two other vehicles resulted in one person losing their life and eight individuals being hospitalized. The crash, which occurred at milepost 218 in the eastbound lanes, also prompted the closure of the highway. Authorities reported that a total of ten individuals were traveling in the van, with one juvenile sustaining critical injuries and transported by helicopter to a trauma center, while four other juveniles and three adults were taken to a nearby hospital. Regrettably, the van's driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. Meanwhile, the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the other vehicles involved remained on-site and their occupants were unharmed. The investigation into the crash is being led by the CSP Vehicular Crimes Unit, with CDOT offering support to the state patrol. As a result, the eastbound lanes of I-70 are expected to remain closed for an extended period, with westbound traffic reduced to one lane. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes due to traffic delays and hazardous road conditions.
