Fatal multi-car accident on Highway 99 causes one death and multiple injuries
A tragic multi-vehicle accident occurred on Sunday morning in Fresno, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash, involving about 15 vehicles including a semi truck, happened on the southbound lanes of Highway 99 between North and Cedar Avenues. Poor visibility due to fog, causing limited sight to less than 15 feet, was a significant factor in the accident. The collision began when vehicles in the first and second lanes slowed down, leading to subsequent crashes as cars behind them were unable to stop in time. While most injuries were minor to moderate, sadly, one person lost their life at the scene. A Fresno FAX bus transported those with minor injuries to a local hospital. The roadway is expected to remain closed for several hours, and drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes. The CHP suggests using southbound Highway 41, clear after Cedar Avenue, as a detour before rejoining Highway 99. Anyone with footage or information related to the crash is urged to reach out to the CHP at 559-705-2200.
