Fatal Highway 4 crash involving garbage truck shuts down traffic: CHP

(KRON) -- The California Highway Patrol Contra Costa County area office said a Friday afternoon fatal pedestrian collision involving a garbage truck has shut down traffic. CHP Contra Costa County said officers responded to the incident just after 2:30 p.m. in the westbound direction on Highway 4 and San Marco Boulevard. One man has died in the collision, according to CHP. It is not yet clear what led to the incident. As of 4 p.m., the numbered 3 and 4 lanes remain blocked. The numbered 1 and 2 lanes are open, and the San Marco Boulevard off-ramp is still accessible to drivers. There is no estimated timeframe for the lanes to reopen. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
