Fatal head-on crash leaves 2 dead, 1 seriously injured on Highway 49

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 5:45 p.m. and involved a Ford Edge and a Chevrolet Pickup, which collided head-on. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene after the pick-up caught on fire. CHP said a third person suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital. CHP said both directions of Highway 49 were closed as investigators worked the scene. The roadway is expected to be closed for about two hours as officials continue to learn more. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and expect significant delays. At this time, CHP did not release the identities of those involved or the cause of the crash.
