Fatal crash shuts down Old Highway 99 in Red Bluff
A fatal crash involving a semi-truck and a van has shut down both directions of Old Highway 99 near St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff on Thursday evening. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) traffic logs, the collision was reported around 5:45 p.m. CHP says the roadway is completely blocked. Emergency crews responded to the scene after the crash, and firefighters were called when one of the vehicles began catching fire. Cal Fire extinguished the flames. The Tehama County Sheriff's Office was notified to coordinate with the coroner, while Red Bluff Police assisted with traffic control and road closures. As of 5:57 p.m., both the northbound lanes at Riverside Avenue and the southbound lanes at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital are fully closed, as crews are working at the scene.
