Fatal crash shuts down Neosho road
NEOSHO, Mo. — A single-vehicle crash near Neosho claims one life and shuts down a major roadway. It happened just after noon on Friday along McKinney Street, between Mallard and Freeman Roads. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Seth Zerbel, 31, of Neosho, was headed west on McKinney (Highway 86), just east of Neosho when his SUV ran off the right side of the road. Troopers say he overcorrected, went back across the road, overturned and struck a utility pole. Zerbel died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Powerlines were downed in the wreck, forcing authorities to shut down that portion of McKinney while waiting for Liberty Utility crews to assist. This is the 25th fatality of the year for MSHP Troop D. "I am the chairman of the Teen Challenge Board; he was one of our staff members. It'll leave a big hole in our operation—plus, his wife is expecting their first child," Newton County Coroner Mark Bridges said in a statement issued to us Friday evening.
