Fatal crash on Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista under investigation
CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A man was killed in a crash near Otay Lake in Chula Vista on Friday, authorities said. The crash occurred around 11:45 a.m. on Otay Lakes Road, east of Wueste Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving an Acura sedan westbound on Otay Lakes Road when his vehicle was struck by a Honda sedan traveling eastbound on the same road. For reasons under investigation, the Honda had crossed over the solid yellow lines and into the westbound lane in which the Acura was traveling, CHP stated in a news release. Both cars ended up on the right shoulder embankment of the westbound lane, CHP said. The driver of the Acura was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries from the crash. The name of the man who died is being withheld pending family notification, according to the release. The cause and events leading up to the crash are still being investigated. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash, CHP said.
