Fatal crash on Highway 83 in Colorado leaves 5 dead, 2 injured
Five individuals lost their lives in a tragic car accident on Monday on Highway 83, which included three children. Colorado State Patrol reported that a Toyota Matrix traveling south on Highway 83 veered off onto the right shoulder, overcorrected, and rolled into northbound traffic, colliding head-on with a Ford Fusion near the intersection with South Russellville Road south of Franktown. This incident involved two vehicles and tragically resulted in the deaths of a 31-year-old Denver man driving the Matrix and a 35-year-old man from Colorado Springs driving the Fusion, along with three juvenile passengers in the Fusion, ages 8, 12, and 12. Additionally, two other children from the Fusion, a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, were airlifted to the hospital with severe injuries. The driver and front passenger of the Fusion were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The Matrix was confirmed to be stolen from a carjacking incident in Aurora earlier that same day. The identities of those involved have not been disclosed. The highways in the area were closed following the accident and a separate crash also occurred nearby, causing further disruption in the region.
