Fatal Crash in Pinellas Park: Driver Dies After Fleeing Scene and Hitting Tree
A 27-year-old man tragically lost his life on Friday night after leaving the scene of a car crash and then crashing into a tree in Pinellas Park. The Pinellas Park Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 10:09 p.m. at the intersection of Gateway Center Parkway and Gateway Center Boulevard. The driver, identified as Yower Malvarez, was driving a GMC Sierra truck and failed to stop at a stop sign, colliding with a tree. Malvarez was taken to the hospital where he later passed away. Prior to the fatal crash, Malvarez was also involved in a minor collision at the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 and Gandy Boulevard. The other driver in the initial crash was unharmed and cooperated with investigators. While impairment was ruled out as a factor in both incidents, speed may have played a role, according to police.
