Fatal crash in Houston involving CenterPoint utility truck and 18-wheeler
A fatal collision between a CenterPoint Energy utility truck and an 18-wheeler occurred on the I-610 South Loop in Houston. The incident took place in the westbound lanes near MLK Blvd. around 9:30 a.m. The driver of a Ford F450 CenterPoint Energy truck changed lanes and collided with the right front tire of the 18-wheeler, causing the 18-wheeler to lose control and drag the CenterPoint truck into the grassy median, hitting a retaining wall and light pole. Tragically, a passenger in the CenterPoint truck later passed away at the hospital. The driver of the CenterPoint truck was found not to be intoxicated and was released after questioning. The highway was closed for several hours but reopened at 3 p.m. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved in the accident.
