Fatal crash in Flathead County; driver leaves the scene

A tragic crash occurred over the weekend in Flathead County when a driver abandoned the scene after an overturned vehicle resulted in the death of a passenger. According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Saturday, December 20, 2025, when a driver failed to navigate a left-hand curve on Buffalo Trail and Running Bison Lane near Somers. The vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado, veered off the road, rolled onto its side, and hit trees after going down an embankment. The passenger, identified as 34-year-old Tannon Hillis from Bozeman, tragically lost their life at the scene. Authorities suspect alcohol, drugs, and speed may have contributed to the crash. The driver, who fled the scene, remains unidentified. The response to the incident involved agencies such as the Somers Fire Department, Lakeside Quick Response Unit, Montana Highway Patrol, and Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.
