Fatal crash in Esopus claims 1 life

Tragically, a fatal head-on collision occurred in Esopus on Wednesday morning, resulting in one person being thrown from a vehicle. The Esopus Fire Department reported that the incident took place near 1835 Route 9W around 6 a.m. Originally responding to reports of a two-car crash, emergency units quickly determined it was a head-on collision with entrapment and ejection. Upon arrival, first responders found one individual ejected from a car and another trapped inside a separate vehicle. The trapped person was freed through a side window and transported to a nearby hospital by the New Paltz Rescue Squad. Regrettably, the ejected individual did not survive. Route 9W in Esopus was shut down for an extended period while authorities investigated the crash, with the road reopening by 10:50 a.m. Additional details on the incident will be shared by the New York State Police.
