Fatal crash in East Los Angeles involving pedestrian
A pedestrian was fatally hit by a car in East Los Angeles on Sunday evening, confirmed by authorities. The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. near Williamson Avenue and Whittier Boulevard, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. At the scene, emergency responders pronounced the victim deceased due to injuries sustained during the collision. The identity of the victim is still unknown at this time. Officials from the CHP are actively investigating the case but do not suspect it was a hit-and-run. On Monday, law enforcement informed CBS Los Angeles that the driver involved in the crash was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver has not been identified. Three hours after the incident, SkyCal flew over the crash site, where CHP officers were observed examining the area of the accident. A silver SUV was halted in the roadway, and the area appeared to be closed to traffic as the investigation continued.
