Fatal Crash Closes Nazareth Pike In Lower Nazareth Township
A fatal crash shut down a stretch of Nazareth Pike in Lower Nazareth Township Sunday evening, Feb. 22, as snow from a winter storm began falling across the Lehigh Valley. The Northampton County coroner’s office was called to the scene of a crash involving a pickup truck and a sedan at Nazareth Pike, also known as Route 191, and Gradwohl Switch Road just after 5 p.m., according to Northampton County 911 dispatch. Emergency alerts reported one person was heavily entrapped and experiencing agonal breathing, while another person was pronounced dead at the scene. Fire crews worked to extricate the trapped patient, who was removed from the vehicle around 5:23 p.m., according to dispatch updates. One person was transported to the hospital, 911 dispatch confirmed. The coroner responded to the scene. Nazareth Pike was closed between Daniels Road and Jandy Boulevard for an extended period of time following the crash, authorities said. The collision happened as snow from a major winter storm impacting the region began to pick up. It was not immediately known if weather played a role in the crash.
