Fatal crash claims life of Louisiana man near U.S. Highway 71
RED RIVER PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Louisiana State Police say a Coushatta man was killed Monday morning when his vehicle veered off U.S. Highway 71 and struck a tree. Police say the crash occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. near the intersection with Louisiana Highway. The preliminary investigation revealed that 58-year-old Michael Walker was traveling northbound in a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle exited the roadway and struck a tree. Police say Walker, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. While impairment is not suspected, standard toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation. Louisiana State Troopers urged drivers to obey all traffic laws and remain alert while driving.
