Fatal crash as SUV tumbles down Ojai ravine
In the Meiners Oaks area of Ojai, early Friday morning, a fatal accident occurred when an SUV veered off a road and tumbled down an embankment. California Highway Patrol responded to the incident near Fairview Road east of Camp Ramah Road around 12:45 a.m. The vehicle, a Ford Explorer, was found on its side down the embankment just after 1 a.m. The driver failed to navigate a left turn, causing the SUV to hit a fence, roll down the slope, collide with a tree, and finally come to a rest on its side. Tragically, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the identities of those involved have not been disclosed. One passenger sustained major injuries and another minor, both requiring extrication from the vehicle by emergency responders. Although all occupants were wearing seatbelts, factors contributing to the crash are still being investigated, including whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
