Fatal Colorado Springs crash: Minor may have run red light, police say
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A driver involved in a serious crash near the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and Lehman Drive that resulted in the death of a minor may have run a red light, according to the latest update from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). The crash happened on Wednesday, April 22, just before 2:40 p.m. All people involved in the crash were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A minor, whose name will not be released in accordance with Colorado law, later died of their injuries. The initial investigation, according to CSPD, indicates that a woman was driving northbound on Academy and was trying to turn left on Lehman when her car was hit by a minor driving southbound with two other minors in the vehicle. "At this point in the investigation, evidence suggests that the southbound vehicle ran a red light before entering the intersection," CSPD wrote. "Speed is also being investigated as a contributing factor in this crash." The woman and two other minors involved in the crash continue to receive treatment for their injuries, according to police. The investigation remains ongoing.
