Fatal collision near Julian results in child's death and injuries to 7 others

A three-vehicle collision in central San Diego County on Sunday afternoon resulted in eight individuals being hospitalized, including the tragic passing of an 8-year-old girl while receiving medical attention. The incident occurred just after 3 p.m. along San Felipe Road, a few miles northeast of Julian, as per Cal Fire reports. The crash involved a Toyota truck trailing a Ford truck pulling a trailer. The Toyota truck, driven by a 26-year-old man with a 24-year-old male passenger, veered into the opposite lanes, colliding head-on with a Toyota sedan before striking the Ford truck and subsequently catching fire after flipping over. Eight individuals were transported to hospitals, with helicopters transporting four of them, according to Cal Fire. Major injuries were sustained by the two men in the Toyota truck and five occupants of the Toyota sedan, which included a 26-year-old male driver, a 28-year-old female passenger, and three children aged 8, 5, and 4. Tragically, the 8-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries at the hospital while receiving treatment. Only a 13-year-old passenger in the Ford truck experienced minor injuries. The CHP noted the crash may be related to alcohol consumption. During the rescue efforts, a firefighter was injured but has since been treated and released. A statement from Captain Monteagudo emphasized the importance of preventing impaired driving-related incidents to safeguard lives in the community.
