Fatal collision between car and train in Coon Rapids, according to police
An individual lost their life in a tragic incident when a train collided with a vehicle at a railroad crossing in the northern Twin Cities on Thursday. The Coon Rapids Police Department reported that the accident occurred at around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of 119th Avenue Northwest and Northdale Boulevard Northwest. Responding officers discovered one person inside a vehicle that had been hit by a freight train. The individual had to be rescued from the car and was then taken to a hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries, as confirmed by BNSF. Thankfully, there were no other reported injuries. The railroad crossing was equipped with safety measures like gates, lights, and bells, according to BNSF. The Coon Rapids Police Department and the Anoka County Sheriff's Department are conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.
