Fatal car crash claims life of pedestrian
A 22-year-old man from Sandusky was taken into custody on Saturday following an incident where he reportedly struck and fatally injured a pedestrian. The Sandusky police reported that the collision took place around 2 p.m. that Saturday. The man was driving a 2011 Mazda SUV with a female passenger on Springdale Drive when the accident occurred. Sadly, the pedestrian, an adult male, lost his life due to the impact of the collision. The man is facing charges of vehicular homicide as stated by Sandusky Police Chief Jared Oliver. The victim's identity has not been disclosed by the police. It was determined that speed played a role in the tragic crash. Following consultation with the Erie County prosecutor's office, the suspect was charged with a first-degree misdemeanor. Currently, he is being held at the Erie County Jail without bond. Although the man was arraigned in Sandusky Municipal Court on Monday morning, no future court dates have been listed. Please note that the identity of the suspect has been withheld as the charges against him are at a misdemeanor level.
