Fatal Accident Involving Utah Man on I-80 Near Evanston
A tragic incident occurred over the weekend on Interstate 80 near Evanston, Wyoming, when a Utah man driving the wrong way collided head-on with a semitrailer, resulting in his death. The man, identified as 40-year-old Duane Derrick of Logan, Utah, was driving a Chevy pickup eastbound in the westbound lanes at around 2 p.m. Saturday. The collision was severe, with the vehicle completely totaled and the semitrailer ending up down an embankment. Shocked witnesses wondered how the accident occurred. The Wyoming Highway Patrol confirmed the details and reported that both vehicles swerved onto the shoulder, leading to the head-on collision. Derrick was wearing his seatbelt at the time. This unfortunate incident marks the seventh fatality on Wyoming's roads in 2026. Wyoming is noted as one of the most dangerous states for trucking, although this statistic can be influenced by the state's small population and the high volume of truck traffic on certain highway stretches.
