Fatal accident in Plainfield closes part of I-55 before evening commute
A fatal accident on I-55 in the southwest suburbs near Plainfield has caused delays for drivers Thursday morning. The incident occurred on the northbound side of I-55 at milepost 260 close to Airport Road in Romeoville at around 3:45 a.m. Although specific details about the crash are still unknown, Illinois State Police have confirmed the involvement of three vehicles and reported one fatality at the scene. As a result of the accident, authorities have closed the northbound lanes of I-55 between US-30 and Weber Road, redirecting traffic at Route 30. SkyCam 9 captured aerial shots showing a severely damaged car and a barrier wall near the crash site. The cause of the collision and the duration of the lane closures are currently unclear.
