Fatal accident in Bentonia involving school bus

A tragic incident occurred in Bentonia, Mississippi, where a driver lost his life in a collision involving a school bus. The accident took place at the intersection of Highway 49 and Highway 433 at around 3:15 p.m. on January 8, 2026. Reports from Yazoo County deputies indicate that a dark GMC Canyon traveling northbound on Highway 49 crashed with a school bus heading westbound on Highway 433 at the intersection, causing the GMC Canyon to overturn multiple times. Fortunately, the students on the bus and the bus driver emerged unharmed. The driver of the GMC Canyon, identified as Philip Williams, 63, from Yazoo City, unfortunately passed away at the scene. The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is conducting an investigation into the incident.
