Fatal accident at construction site in Fayetteville

Please be aware that some readers may find the details of this story distressing. Earlier last month, a tragic accident occurred at a construction site in Fayetteville, resulting in the death of Jose Ibarra Ponce, a 36-year-old man from Prairie Grove. The incident, involving a road grader, took place on Dec. 15 and led to Ponce sustaining fatal injuries. Responders were called to the scene at East Rolling Hills Drive and North Old Missouri Road around 10:20 a.m. Jose Ponce was discovered in a ditch near Butterfield Elementary School, where emergency measures were attempted by his colleagues. Despite their efforts, Ponce did not survive the accident. Witnesses reported that Ponce was attempting to escape from the cab of the equipment when the brakes failed, causing the vehicle to move downhill. Tragically, he was struck by the blade and run over by a wheel. Ponce suffered extensive injuries and, despite resuscitation efforts on-site, he was later declared deceased at a nearby hospital.
