Fatal 18-wheeler wreck on Highway 287, FM 2384 outside Electra
WICHITA COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) — A fatal 18-wheeler crash happened right outside of Electra on Thursday, May 14, 2026, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. According to the Texas DPS, the wreck occurred around 1:18 p.m. on Highway 287 and FM 2384, east of Electra. The driver of an 18- wheeler did not survive the crash. Traffic was still at a standstill around 2:50 p.m. in the northbound lanes of 287 around Electra. Our crew on scene said it appears the driver may have lost control on the southbound side of 287, crossed into the northbound lanes, then struck a guardrail and went through some barriers. That semi is now sitting on its side on the northbound side of 287 as we await official word from DPS officials on what happened. Electra Fire, Electra EMS, DPS, the Wichita County Sheriff's Office and TxDOT remain on scene. This is all of the information known at this time.
