Failed passing attempt triggers fiery head-on crash, killing four adults and two children
WACO, Texas - A fiery two-vehicle crash on SH 171 near FM 3155, between Bynum and Malone, left six people dead Saturday afternoon, according to preliminary information from the Texas Department of Public Safety. DPS said the crash happened Saturday, June 20, 2026, at about 4:33 p.m. Investigators said a Nissan traveling northbound on SH 171 attempted to pass another vehicle and crashed into an approaching Ford van. Officials said both vehicles became fully engulfed. In the van, two adults and two children were killed, DPS said. One child was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Two people in the Nissan were also killed. The investigation is active and ongoing, DPS said. Next of kin have not been notified.
