Ex-Dolphins assistant coach Foerster to co-lead 49ers after head coach Kyle Shanahan's car accident

Video above: News and weather for Monday, July 27, 2026A former Miami Dolphins assistant coach who resigned nearly 10 years ago after a video surfaced on social media showing him engaged in illegal drug use has been given the chance to lead an NFL team temporarily.The San Francisco 49ers announced on Saturday, July 25, that assistant head coach Chris Foerster was elevated to handle head coaching responsibilities with team coordinators after 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week.The 49ers released the following statement: "San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week where he suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers.
