Estacada firefighter injured in fireworks accident returns home from hospital
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — While the recovery journey may not be over for one Estacada firefighter who was injured in a fireworks accident on July 4, he has reached an important milestone. Micah Koch, a certified pyrotechnician and firefighter, has helped the Estacada High School with their Fourth of July fireworks show for going on four years. However, during this year's show, a mortar unexpectedly went off while Koch was completing a routine post-show inspection for duds. He was severely injured and Life-Flighted to a Portland-area hospital. On Friday, he was finally released from that hospital and allowed to return home, the Estacada Fire District shared in a Facebook post. Koch made a stop at the fire station to say hello to his colleagues before heading home. There, he will continue recovery and rehabilitation in the weeks and months ahead, officials said. Community members are helping raise funds for Koch and his family to help mitigate the cost of lost work, medical expenses, and other related expenses through a GoFundMe page.
