ESPN Analyst Matt Miller Has Arm Amputated Following ‘Serious Car Accident’

ESPN analyst Matt Miller has shared that he recently had to have his arm amputated after being involved in a “serious car accident” in Missouri. Miller, who reports on NFL draft news for the network, opened up about the scary incident in a statement posted on X Tuesday, June 23. “Last week, I was involved in a serious car accident in Missouri and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital,” he wrote. “I’m deeply grateful for the exceptional care I have received, from the first responders to the doctors, nurses and medical staff. I’m incredibly fortunate to be writing this.” Miller said that the accident left him with “significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs.” He then revealed that his left arm needed to be amputated. “I also underwent a life-saving amputation of my left arm. While I have a long road ahead, I’m focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time,” Miller wrote. He expressed his gratitude for the support, prayers and sweet messages that have been sent to him and his family. At the end of his post, he said he was focusing on healing and returning to the sports desk. “I look forward to continuing my recovery and getting back to ESPN to talk football, including what should be an exciting 2027 NFL Draft class,” he concluded. Fellow reporters and members of the ESPN family left supportive messages in the replies. NFL insider Adam Schefter said, “Best wishes for a speedy recovery. We are pulling for you!” Sports journalist Mina Kimes wrote, “Ah Matt I’m so sorry to hear this—and so relieved to hear you pulled through. We’re all behind you. Much love to you and yours this week.” Ian Rapoport, another NFL insider, said, “Get well and hang in there!!” Miller started working at ESPN in 2021 as a NFL Draft contributor, according to his bio on the sports network’s press site. He then became a year-round draft analyst in 2022 and began delivering on-air analysis on ESPN’s broadcast in 2023. He has since covered NFL Draft news on “NFL Live,” “SportsCenter,” “Get Up!” and other ESPN shows. Miller previously worked at the Bleacher Report and New Era Scouting.
