Eighty-year-old woman dies after Shreveport crash

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The Caddo Parish Coroner's office has identified the woman killed last week in an accident happening in south Shreveport at Ellerbe Road and LA Highway 3132. According to the coroner's office, Carolyn Romero, 80, of Shreveport, was taken to a local hospital after the wreck that happened just after 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22. According to SPD, when officers arrived at the scene, they found two SUVs heavily damaged. They say one of the vehicles, a 2015 Volkswagen Touareg, was traveling southbound on Ellerbe Road, approaching LA Highway 3132, when the other vehicle, a 2024 Honda CR-V, exited the highway and entered the path of the oncoming vehicle. Both drivers were taken to local hospitals. Their injuries were initially believed to be non-life-threatening, but on Tuesday morning at around 10:00 a.m., the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office contacted SPD, letting them know that Ms. Romero, who was driving the Honda CR-V, had died due to injuries suffered in the crash. SPD says its investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
