Edison Tech car crash simulation shows students dangers of risky driving
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — As graduation and prom season kick off in Rochester, law enforcement and first responders are reminding students about the dangers of risky driving. On Wednesday, the parking lot of Edison Career and Technology High School resembled the scene of a serious car crash, with student actors and realistic responses from members of the Rochester Police Department, Rochester Fire Department, and American Medical Response. The drill is a part of an initiative to show students the real-life consequences and devastation of distracted and impaired driving, as a means of prevention. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the risk of a motor vehicle crash is highest among drivers aged 16 to 19. Sadly, crashes have been determined as one of the leading causes of death among teens. Following the demonstration, students gathered in the school auditorium to discuss the experience and to learn more about the psychological impact of trauma.
