Edison Bridge Lanes Reopen
Update at 6:03 p.m. MARGARETTA TWP. - There were several accidents on the Thomas A. Edison Memorial Bridge (Ohio 2) on Monday afternoon, causing extended closures. Multiple crashes, including two separate incidents with multiple vehicles in both eastbound and westbound lanes, occurred during the mid-afternoon. The bridge was reopened to one lane of traffic in each direction just before 6 p.m. A semi truck was part of one of the crashes, with a photo from the Ohio Department of Transportation showing the vehicle stuck on a guardrail. The total number of vehicles involved is unknown, but no injuries were reported as of Monday night. The wintry weather was a factor leading to slippery roads. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported a second crash in the eastbound lanes at 3:41 p.m., resulting in a complete closure of both sides of the bridge. The earlier multi-vehicle crash had already closed the westbound lanes. The Erie County Sheriff's Office warned drivers to avoid the area near the intersection with Ohio 269. Dispatchers will provide an update when the road reopens. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
