Early-morning Malibu crash leaves at least 1 dead, authorities say
An early-morning crash in Malibu claimed at least one life, authorities confirmed. A California Highway Patrol spokesperson told KTLA that units were dispatched to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Pacific Coast Highway. Preliminary information indicated the crash occurred just before 4:40 a.m. Monday. The CHP spokesperson confirmed a fatality and said that the incident took place along PCH at Mulholland Highway; however, according to the L.A. County Fire Department, the location was later updated to PCH and Encinal Canyon Road. Officials did not confirm whether CHP or the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department would be handling the investigation into the crash. No further details surrounding the collision were available right away, including what caused it or whether speed or impairment were factors. Nancy Fontan contributed to this report.
