DUI driver accused of fatal Midtown crash appears in court

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man who is charged with hitting and killing a woman with his car in Midtown while intoxicated went before a judge Monday following his arrest. Daniel Thomas, 67, is also charged with Vehicular Homicide, Driving Under the Influence, Public Intoxication, Reckless Driving, and Driving without a license or insurance. Around 8:40 Thursday night, Thomas was driving on Union Avenue, where the victim was outside of her car with flashers on, tending to car trouble. That’s when, according to police, she was hit. According to Memphis Police, Daniel Thomas told officers on Thursday at the scene of a fatal crash that he had too much to drink. Police say Thomas struck and killed the woman with his car. Thomas stood before the judge on Monday for arraignment. During Thomas’ appearance, the judge set his bond at $110,000. Thomas told the judge that he thinks he'll be able to make his bond. He will appear in court on Thursday for his bond hearing.
