Drunk driver crashes off roadway with two kids in car: CHP Hayward
(KRON) -- A father suspected of driving under the influence went off the roadway in a crash Wednesday with his two children in his vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol Hayward area office. No injuries were reported. The incident occurred at approximately 3:16 p.m. on Southbound Crow Canyon Road, just north of E Castro Valley Boulevard. Two CHP officers who responded to the scene soon determined the man was under the influence of alcohol, said officials. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail where he faces DUI and felony child endangerment charges. Another guardian of the children responded to the scene to pick them up. CHP believes the situation could have taken a much darker turn. "Let this serve as a rare reality of what could have been," CHP Hayward said. "With alcohol, inclement weather, and children involved, the outcome could have been much worse."
