Drunk driver accused of causing fatal crash arrested: 'Serious error'

Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic accident that occurred on Sunday afternoon on I-75 in Sarasota. A man has been charged with DUI manslaughter in connection to the incident, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash involved a Toyota Camry sedan and a Nissan Pathfinder SUV traveling north on I-75 near mile marker 203. The sedan struck the Nissan, causing the SUV to run off the road and collide with a tree. Troopers criticized Donaldson's actions, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation due to his high blood alcohol level, which was double the legal limit. The tragic consequences could have been avoided if alternative transportation options like Uber, Lyft, or taxis had been utilized. Donaldson, 41, from Ohio, was arrested at the scene and is currently held without bond until his pre-trial detention hearing on December 19th, as noted by Trooper Watson. This unfortunate incident serves as a poignant reminder to make responsible choices, particularly with the upcoming holiday season, to prevent endangering yourself and others.
