Drivers urged to avoid SR 70 after fatal crash as reroutes trigger backups on U.S. 98
A fatal crash on Tuesday shut down part of State Road 70 in Highlands County , causing major traffic disruptions in the area. The Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened on SR 70 West just east of County Road 721. At least one person was killed. Investigators have not released any additional details about those involved. The Florida Highway Patrol is handling the investigation and expects the road to stay closed for several hours while crews work the scene, according to the release.
