Driver to appear in court following deadly weekend Edinburg crash

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A 31-year-old man accused of driving while intoxicated and causing a two-vehicle collision that killed a woman and seriously injured two boys over the weekend is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Edinburg police previously said that Miguel Angel Suarez, 31, is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter and four counts of intoxication assault. Suarez is scheduled to appear in Edinburg Municipal Court at 3 p.m. Monday. The bond hearing will be livestreamed in this article. On Saturday evening, authorities responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Salinas Street and West Monte Cristo Road. According to a news release from Edinburg police, a westbound vehicle, driven by Suarez, ran a red light and struck another vehicle entering the intersection. The second vehicle was carrying five passengers, including three children: two boys, ages 9 and 5, and a 4-year-old girl, police said. The driver of the impacted vehicle, identified as 39-year-old Martha Luna Miranda, was pronounced dead at the scene. Miranda’s husband, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital. The 4-year-old girl was also treated and released, police said. The two boys were transported to a San Antonio hospital for further medical treatment. The crash remains under investigation.
