Driver punished for deadly hit-and-run on Covington Road

A driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run accident that occurred last year in Fort Wayne, Indiana has been sentenced. Salma Nadrous, aged 64, was given a six-year prison term, with three years suspended, by a judge at Allen Superior Court. The incident took place in January 2025 on Covington Road near Getz Road, resulting in the death of 61-year-old Ronald Bjella. The driver failed to stop after hitting the victim, and it was only over an hour later that her son called to report the incident as a possible collision with a deer. Surveillance evidence and witness statements supported the prosecution's case. Nadrous admitted guilt for leaving the scene of the fatal collision and now faces a 12-year suspension of her driver's license along with the prison sentence.
