Driver pleads guilty after meth discovered in system in fatal 2023 crash

A man from Waskom, Texas, named Rodney Dan Lemay, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide stemming from a fatal traffic accident in 2023. The incident happened on Woolworth Road on July 18, 2023, where Lemay, driving home from work, crossed the center line and collided with Jeffrey Merritt's vehicle, resulting in Merritt's death. Lemay, aged 60, admitted to his charges in Caddo District Court on January 12, 2026. Lemay had traces of methamphetamine in his system during the crash. District Judge Chris Victory sentenced Lemay to a 10-year hard labor term, with three years to be served without eligibility for probation, parole, or suspension, and imposed a $2,000 fine. The prosecution was handled by Assistant District Attorney Courtney N. Ray.
