Driver misses stop sign, collides with semi truck in Allegan County; 2 seriously hurt
Two drivers were seriously hurt following a crash in Gun Plain Township Monday afternoon, according to the Allegan County Sheriff's Office. The crash happened between a semi truck carrying crushed asphalt and a passenger vehicle at the intersection of 106th Avenue and 11th Street just after 3 p.m., deputies said. TRAFFIC ALERT: Both sides of M-43 near M-40 in Van Buren County closed after crash The driver of the passenger vehicle was going south on 11th Street when they missed the stop sign and was hit by the semi truck, which was going west on 106th Avenue. Deputies said the semi then lost control and overturned, causing crushed asphalt to spill all over the road. The driver was subsequently pinned inside and had to be removed by first responders. Both drivers were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries, according to the sheriff's office. As of Monday evening, drivers should avoid the area as the intersection is still closed and deputies said will remain closed for "an extended period of time" while the investigation continues.
