Driver killed after crash into Ashtabula restaurant
ASHTABULA, Ohio (WJW) – A local restaurant is indefinitely closed following a deadly car crash. Just before 4 a.m. on Friday, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers responded to state Route 531 at state Route 11 in Ashtabula. According to investigators, a Chevrolet Silverado headed northbound on state Route 11, went off the north side of the road, hit a concrete post, a fence, a house and The Crow’s Nest Restaurant. The driver was ejected before the Silverado caught fire. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as John Yerkey, 52, of Salem. The cause of the crash is under investigation. According to The Crow’s Nest, they will be closed indefinitely. “None of our employees were hurt,” they shared. “We will keep everyone updated as we have more info. We had never dealt with anything like this before and do not know what to expect," reads the post. Photos shared by the restaurant showed extensive damage around the building, including fire damage from the crash.
